Auto-Ordnance has introduced the T1SB50DH, a factory short-barreled rifle built on the classic Thompson platform and chambered in .45 ACP, with each example shipping standard with both a 50-round drum magazine and a 20-round stick magazine at an MSRP of $3,086. The Greeley, Pennsylvania manufacturer announced the new model this week, making it the most compact Thompson configuration available through the standard dealer transfer process.
The T1SB50DH is built around a 10.5-inch finned barrel fitted with a traditional Cutts compensator — the same comp that defined the military Thompson's profile — bringing the total barrel assembly to 12.5 inches and overall length to 35 inches. The frame and receiver are precision-machined from solid steel and finished in blued steel. American walnut furniture, a fixed buttstock and horizontal forearm, preserves the period-correct silhouette, while a blade front sight and open adjustable rear handle target acquisition. The complete package weighs 12 pounds.
The launch timing is notable. Congress eliminated the $200 NFA transfer and making tax on short-barreled rifles effective January 1, 2026, removing a flat fee that had applied to SBR acquisitions for more than eight decades. On a $3,086 MSRP, the savings represent a roughly six percent reduction in total acquisition cost compared to pre-reform pricing. The standard Form 4 dealer transfer process remains in place, but ATF eForm 4 processing times have dropped substantially since the reform took effect, with approvals now completing in days rather than months for most individual filers.
The Firearm Blog covered the announcement on August 18, noting the T1SB50DH as a factory-correct short-barrel Thompson configuration that enthusiasts have historically had to source through custom gunsmiths or at collector premiums on the secondary market. Auto-Ordnance is a division of Kahr Firearms Group, which operates its manufacturing facility in Greeley, Pennsylvania.
For Thompson collectors and .45 ACP enthusiasts, the dual-magazine inclusion — drum and stick — in the base package represents genuine added value. The 50-round drum preserves the iconic interwar silhouette that defines the Thompson experience; the 20-round stick handles range efficiency and storage. Factory SBR configurations of the Thompson with the finned barrel and Cutts compensator arrangement have historically commanded prices well above the T1SB50DH's MSRP when they surface on the used market, making this a straightforward entry point for buyers who want the configuration new and transferable.
Auto-Ordnance has not announced a production quantity limit on the T1SB50DH. Interested buyers should contact a Class III or SOT-licensed dealer for transfer and inventory availability, as specialty firearm configurations in this segment typically see strong initial demand following announcement.
