Smith & Wesson and Vortex Optics announced a partnership in late July to offer four Model 1854 lever-action rifle packages, each shipping from the factory with a Vortex Crossfire HD 2-7×32 riflescope already mounted, giving buyers a complete, scope-equipped hunting rifle from a single dealer purchase. The packages span two cartridges — .30-30 Winchester and .45-70 Government — and two stock configurations, with stainless-synthetic builds carrying an MSRP of $1,479 and walnut-stocked versions priced at $1,579.

The Model 1854 has built a following since its introduction as Smith & Wesson's modern interpretation of the American lever gun, pairing classic lever mechanics with a removable-magazine tube design, a forged stainless-steel receiver finished in Armornite, and an integral Picatinny rail that takes optics without separate base installation. The platform remained largely unchanged for the Ready-to-Hunt packages, with all four rifles sharing the standard 20-inch barrel, 6+1 capacity, large-loop lever, and integrated sling mounting points. What the packages add is the Vortex glass installed and coordinated from the factory rather than leaving the buyer to source and mount a scope independently.

The Vortex Crossfire HD 2-7×32 is a compact, purpose-built hunting scope sized well for the 1854's intended use cases. At 2×, the bottom of its zoom range, it delivers a wide field of view for fast target acquisition in brush country at close range; cranked to 7×, it handles clean shots at the practical hunting distances that .30-30 and .45-70 are built for. The scope uses fully multi-coated glass and a dead-hold BDC reticle calibrated for the performance hunters expect from these cartridges on deer, black bear, and big game at timber-range distances.

Guns Magazine reports the bundled pricing undercuts what a buyer would spend purchasing the rifle and an equivalent scope separately at retail, making the packages particularly appealing for hunters who want a complete setup without a separate trip to the optics counter. The .30-30 fills the classic deer-country role that cartridge has held for more than a century, while the .45-70 configuration provides the heavy-bullet energy needed for bears, elk at timber-range distances, or any species where authority at moderate velocity is the appropriate requirement.

The announcement follows Smith & Wesson's strong fiscal 2026 performance, in which the 1854 was highlighted as a leading contributor to new-product revenue. Outdoor Hub noted the pairing is positioned for both first-time lever-gun buyers and for hunters stepping up from iron-sighted rifles to a scoped platform, removing the friction of independent scope sourcing and mounting.

All four Ready-to-Hunt configurations are available now through Smith & Wesson's dealer network. With whitetail seasons opening across the country in October and November and elk and bear seasons running through fall in the western states, the packages arrive at the practical buying window when hunters are committing to their primary deer or big-game rifle ahead of the season.
