Springfield Armory announced the KUNA Tri-Lug on August 25, releasing a factory-suppressor-ready variant of its roller-delayed 9mm PDW across its dealer network the same day. The new edition integrates three precision-machined lugs directly at the muzzle of the KUNA's 6.6-inch barrel, enabling compatible suppressors to attach and detach with a simple push-and-twist motion — no tools, no timing, no adapter required. Two configurations are available, with MSRPs of $1,179 and $1,330.

The standard KUNA, released earlier in 2026, uses a conventional 1/2x28 threaded muzzle. The Tri-Lug upgrade replaces that interface with an integrally machined lug system designed for push-lug suppressor mounts — a connection type that offers faster transitions between suppressed and unsuppressed configurations and a more rigid barrel-to-can lockup. RECOIL was among the first to cover the launch, calling the Tri-Lug "finally here" in a nod to how frequently the owner community had asked for a factory option.

The rest of the KUNA platform carries over unchanged: a monolithic aluminum upper receiver, a roller-delayed bolt group that delays unlocking until chamber pressure drops and produces noticeably flatter recoil than a comparable blowback design, and fully ambidextrous controls throughout. Two 30-round magazines are included with every KUNA. The base Tri-Lug model features a Picatinny rail section at the rear of the receiver for optics or accessories and carries an MSRP of $1,179. The second variant adds a Strike Industries FSA folding brace pre-installed on that rail, bringing the total to $1,330. Both models ship in 10-round trim as well, for buyers in magazine-restricted jurisdictions. Springfield's FIRSTLINE program makes discounted pricing available to law enforcement, military, and first responders across the lineup.

The Tri-Lug's arrival reflects where the suppressor market currently stands. With the Silencer Shop Foundation v. ATF injunction having simplified suppressor acquisition through a standard NICS background check for covered buyers, demand for suppressor-optimized host platforms has been building faster than many manufacturers anticipated. Springfield's move to offer a tri-lug interface at the factory level — rather than leaving that step to the aftermarket — positions the KUNA directly in the middle of that demand curve.

Springfield has not announced a retrofit path for existing KUNA owners who purchased the original threaded-barrel model; the tri-lug geometry is specific to the Tri-Lug upper assembly and is not a drop-in component. Owners running the standard KUNA remain compatible with standard suppressor adapters at the 1/2x28 thread. The Tri-Lug editions are available now through Springfield Armory's dealer network nationwide.
