Savage Arms announced this month that threaded barrels are now standard across the entire AXIS bolt-action rifle family — the AXIS 2, AXIS 2 PRO, AXIS 2 XP, and AXIS XP — as the Westfield, Massachusetts manufacturer simultaneously adds user-adjustable length of pull to AXIS 2-series models, according to a company press release distributed in mid-August. The Outdoor Wire carried the announcement. The update is the first meaningful refresh the AXIS family has received since the line was relaunched in the fall of 2024.

The headline change is suppressor and muzzle device compatibility built in from the factory. Every AXIS model now ships with a threaded muzzle, compatible with standard aftermarket muzzle brakes, suppressors, and compensators. For buyers who were previously bypassing the entry-level Savage rifles because they arrived without a threaded muzzle, the update removes that friction at no change to the platform's price positioning.

The adjustable length-of-pull feature applies to AXIS 2-family rifles and works without specialized tools. Swapping between a compact and standard stock configuration requires loosening two screws in the recoil pad — a modification that takes minutes and does not require a gunsmith or aftermarket stock. The change makes the AXIS 2 a more practical option in households where the same rifle gets used by shooters of different sizes, and it addresses a common frustration with budget bolt guns that arrive in one fixed configuration.

"Whether you're hunting, spending time at the range or building a more personalized rifle setup, threaded barrels and stock adjustability add meaningful versatility for shooters," said RJ Contorno, Senior Product Manager at Savage Arms.

The AXIS family retains its AccuTrigger, adjustable from the factory, which has long been among the standout features on the line in the sub-$700 segment. Available chamberings span .223 Rem, .22-250 Rem, .243 Win, 6mm ARC, 6.5 Creedmoor, 7mm-08 Rem, .25-06 Rem, .270 Win, .308 Win, .30-06 Sprg, 350 Legend, and 400 Legend — a roster covering most of the bolt-gun buyer market from varmint work to deer season to medium-range precision shooting. MSRP runs from approximately $679 to $719 depending on model and finish. Retailers including Cabela's and Academy Sports + Outdoors have begun listing the updated configurations.

The threaded-barrel update also arrives in favorable context. ATF data released in August showed more than 6.65 million suppressors now registered in private hands, up roughly 500,000 in the previous three months. Manufacturers across all price points have been threading barrels in response to that sustained demand, and Savage's decision to standardize the feature across its most entry-level rifle line extends suppressor-ready access to first-time buyers and budget-focused shooters who might otherwise need to pay extra for a barrel swap.

The NRA's Shooting Sports USA publication also covered the announcement after it was distributed by Savage's PR firm Murray Road Agency in mid-August.

Savage has not announced additional AXIS updates for the remainder of 2026, but with threaded muzzles and adjustable LOP now standard across the family, the AXIS line enters the fall hunting season better positioned than it has been in several years. Watch for expanded retailer availability and potential new chambering additions as the line matures.
