Palmetto State Armory is now shipping the JAKL-9 SD, the suppressor-dedicated variant of its JAKL-9 pistol caliber carbine, with Recoil Magazine running a first-look on the platform this week. The JAKL-9 SD starts at $1,050 in black with a triangle folding brace and $1,100 in FDE with an F5 MRS folding brace; the upper assembly is also offered separately for owners who already run an AR-V lower.

The SD's design premise is straightforward: pair a 6.5-inch barrel with an extended handguard whose 1.8-inch internal bore clears a standard 9mm suppressor, so the can tucks inside the handguard rather than hanging off the muzzle. The result is a more balanced package when a can is installed, with a shorter overall length and the suppressor body protected inside the handguard. PSA threads the barrel 1/2x28 and ships the gun with an extended flash can as a placeholder until the owner mounts their own suppressor.

The operating system is direct blowback, standard territory for 9mm PCCs. Barrel twist is 1:10. The upper is PSA's 6105 monolithic design — the handguard and upper receiver are a single piece of billet aluminum, eliminating the nut-and-rail connection common on two-piece uppers. The lower runs a fully captured buffer system with no buffer tube extending from the rear, which lets the folding brace lock up into a genuinely compact carry footprint. The JAKL-9 SD is compatible with any standard AR-V lower, and PSA sells the upper separately for existing AR-V owners who want the suppressor-host configuration without buying a complete pistol.

Magazines are PSA's own AK-V 35-round sticks or any CZ Scorpion-pattern magazine, giving owners broad options for magazine sourcing. Recoil's first-look highlighted the SD's tuck-can handguard concept as a novel approach in the sub-$1,100 PCC market, where most suppressor-ready offerings amount to a threaded barrel on a standard-length upper rather than a matched host-and-handguard system.

The timing is deliberate. Since the $200 NFA tax stamp on suppressors was zeroed out on January 1, the PCC suppressor-host segment has attracted serious manufacturer attention. PSA's approach — engineering the handguard and barrel as a matched system from the factory rather than adapting an existing upper — positions the JAKL-9 SD as one of the more purpose-built 9mm hosts at any price. Range-test reports on suppressed blowback impulse and the weight balance with a can installed will be the metrics to watch as more hands-on reviews come in.
