KelTec unveiled the SUB-SDP on July 27, giving the company's most recognizable design — the SUB2000 folding carbine — its first pistol-format variant in more than two decades of production. Guns.com broke the news on the new platform, which KelTec's own product team has taken to calling the "Nub Sub." The standard model carries a $599 MSRP and is shipping to dealers now.

The SUB-SDP retains the SUB2000's blowback operating system and magazine-in-the-grip layout, then condenses both into a braced pistol that folds down to just 10 inches for storage or transport. Extended with the brace deployed, the gun measures 17.7 inches overall. The 6-inch barrel is threaded 1/2x28, compatible with any standard 9mm suppressor or muzzle device right out of the box. Unloaded weight is 3 pounds 9 ounces.

Magazine compatibility is one of the platform's biggest practical advantages. The SUB-SDP accepts any Glock G17, G19, or G45 double-stack magazine, so buyers who already run a Glock-pattern pistol can source ammunition feeders from existing stock. The standard model ships with one flush-fit 17-round magazine. KelTec also offers a Defender bundle at $799 that adds a Vortex Crossfire red-dot optic, a compensator, an angled magazine holder mounted beneath the handguard, and two 27-round Magpul PMAGs — a range-ready setup with suppressor hosting built in at a price that undercuts many factory pistol-caliber carbines sold as bare guns.

Both configurations are braced pistols under current federal law, requiring no NFA registration or tax payment. That designation extends the platform's reach into the post-brace-rule landscape, where the pistol format has expanded rapidly. The threaded barrel on every model adds suppressor compatibility straight from the factory, which Athlon Outdoors highlighted as a key differentiator in the mid-price pistol-caliber segment.

The SUB-SDP was designed alongside the third-generation SUB2000, which introduced the ability to fold with a loaded magazine in place. The pistol variant carries over the folding geometry while using a shorter profile and a full pistol brace instead of a rifle stock, making the combination smaller than anything the SUB2000 line has offered before. KelTec has not announced any California-compliant configuration. The threaded barrel and brace are the two features most likely to present challenges under state law, so buyers in restricted jurisdictions should confirm local availability. For everyone else, the SUB-SDP represents a genuine addition to the folding pistol-caliber category — a KelTec original at a price point that should move inventory quickly.

Watch for range impressions and suppressed shooting footage over the coming weeks as dealer inventory arrives. Additional SKUs — custom colors, left-hand configurations, or further Glock-magazine variants — are a reasonable expectation if the initial reception matches KelTec's track record with the SUB2000 family.
