SIG Sauer launched the all-new P385 pistol on September 22 at its annual SIG NEXT event, unveiling a new striker-fired platform the company is positioning as the next generation of its modular handgun lineup. SIG says the P385 delivers a 20-percent or greater reduction in felt recoil compared to competing striker-fired pistols — depending on the variant — and introduces an updated fire control unit built from the ground up rather than adapted from the existing P320 architecture.

The P385 debuts in five configurations: the P385-FULL, P385-CARRY, P385-COMPACT, P385-COMP, and the competition-oriented P385-MACH3D. All five are chambered in 9mm and accept P320 magazines, a deliberate backward-compatibility choice that keeps the platform accessible to the millions of P320 owners already in the market. Every model ships with fully ambidextrous controls, a SIG-LOC optic-ready slide, and an optional factory manual thumb safety. New to this generation is the MAGSTRAP grip module system, which lets shooters swap grip length and texture without tools — a feature SIG is positioning as a direct answer to feedback from the P320 user base, which has long asked for easier module swaps in the field.

The comped variants — the P385-COMP and P385-MACH3D — integrate a factory compensator alongside the platform's reduced-recoil operating system. SIG says the two technologies work in combination to reduce both felt recoil and muzzle rise simultaneously, rather than trading one for the other as is common with ported-barrel designs on competing guns. The MACH3D is oriented toward competition use and high-round-count training, though SIG is offering it to any buyer, not limiting it to a competition-only channel.

The new FCU architecture is a notable departure from previous SIG striker designs. The P320's FCU became an industry benchmark for modularity, and the P385's updated unit retains that spirit while addressing reliability and longevity improvements SIG has not yet detailed fully in pre-release materials. Soldier Systems Daily first covered the launch on September 23, reporting that range time with all five P385 variants was available to attendees at the SIG NEXT event.

The full lineup is available in black and coyote brown. SIG announced a starting MSRP of $599 for base configurations, with the comped and MACH3D variants expected to carry a premium that has not yet been confirmed publicly. Dealer availability is slated for fall and early winter 2026. The P320 family remains in production and will continue alongside the new P385 line.

The P385 enters a densely competitive striker-fired market where SIG's own P320 and P365 families already hold strong positions. The launch raises the question of whether the P385 will replace the P320 in certain roles or serve as an additive offering for shooters seeking the improved recoil characteristics and new modularity features. SIG appears to be signaling the latter — and with P320 magazine compatibility built in from the start, the transition cost for existing P320 owners is low.
