Magpul has introduced the DT-S, a new adjustable AR-15 carbine stock that pairs the company's Dual Tension locking system with an enclosed waterproof battery compartment built directly into the stock body. AmmoLand initially reported the launch on November 3. The DT-S is available now at a suggested retail price of $94.95 in Black, Flat Dark Earth, and Olive Drab Green, with Modified Coyote Brown to follow at a later date.
The DT-S fits mil-spec receiver extension tubes and is compatible with AR-15 and AR-10-pattern rifles sharing that specification. It delivers approximately 3.3 inches of length-of-pull adjustment and an overall stock length of 7.4 inches. The cheek weld is wider than on Magpul's existing DT Carbine Stock, and the battery storage compartment is fully enclosed and waterproofed — built into the stock body rather than clipped on externally — keeping electronics dry without increasing the rifle's footprint. At 15 ounces, the DT-S is manufactured in the United States.
The DT-S slots into Magpul's lineup above the standard DT Carbine Stock, which carries a $69.95 MSRP. At $94.95, the DT-S matches the price of the MOE SL-S, Magpul's existing storage-equipped collapsible stock. The key distinction between the two is the lockup mechanism: the DT-S uses Magpul's Dual Tension system, which applies consistent friction to the buffer tube for a tighter, rattle-free fit without tools, while the MOE SL-S uses a conventional latch. For shooters who run lights, lasers, or IR devices on their rifles, the DT-S consolidates backup battery storage into the stock rather than requiring a separate attachment point on the rifle or kit.
AR-platform stocks occupy a mature product category, but Magpul has found a consistent market for each iteration of the DT family. The original DT Carbine Stock's Dual Tension locking addressed the loose-fit and play complaints associated with older mil-spec stock designs, earning the product wide adoption in patrol rifle and competition circles. The DT-S carries forward the same mechanism and adds a practical feature for the growing number of shooters powering optics, IR illuminators, and other accessories from batteries that need reliable protection from water. For patrol-rifle users, three-gun competitors who stash a spare CR123 in their stock, and backcountry hunters concerned about moisture degrading a battery pack, the DT-S makes the case without adding bulk.
Modified Coyote Brown is slated to follow the initial launch colors. The DT-S is currently available through Magpul dealers and distributors at the $94.95 MSRP, putting it squarely in the premium AR-15 stock tier alongside comparable options from Magpul's own MOE SL-S and the broader market. For shooters running a battery-powered optic or accessory, the premium over the standard DT Carbine Stock comes out to roughly the cost of an aftermarket battery storage solution — a reasonable trade for those already in the market for a new stock.
