Hornady Manufacturing released its 2027 product lineup on October 15, adding four new loads to the SBR Suppressed Supersonic family, expanding its Subsonic handgun line, and introducing a new 6.8 Western Precision Hunter load. The company follows a consistent pattern of dropping the following year's catalog in mid-October, giving dealers and buyers a head start on preseason inventory planning.
The SBR Suppressed Supersonic additions are the most technically notable part of the announcement. The four new cartridges cover the most common suppressor-compatible, short-barreled platforms: 5.56 NATO in a 73-grain load, 6mm ARC at 108 grains, 300 Blackout at 178 grains, and 308 Winchester at 178 grains. The SBR Suppressed designation does not mean subsonic — these are full-velocity loads designed for shooters who want suppressor-compatible ammunition without trading away terminal performance or cycling reliability. Each load is tuned for shorter gas systems, where dwell time and port pressure differ meaningfully from a carbine-length barrel.
The 300 Blackout addition is likely the most commercially significant of the four. Blackout is already offered in a broad spread of subsonic and supersonic factory loads, but a purpose-built SBR-tuned supersonic at 178 grains occupies a weight class that most factory offerings have not addressed. The 6mm ARC entry speaks to the cartridge's growing foothold in both the precision-rifle community and among hunters pursuing medium-size game at distance.
The new subsonic handgun additions extend a segment Hornady has been building out as suppressor ownership climbs. Suppressor sales accelerated notably after federal courts struck down NFA registration requirements earlier in 2026, and demand for suppressor-optimized ammunition has followed at the retail level. Hornady did not release specific calibers or bullet weights for the new subsonic handgun loads in the initial announcement.
The 6.8 Western Precision Hunter entry completes the 2027 lineup additions. Hornady already markets a 176-grain ELD-X Precision Hunter load in that caliber; the 2027 addition is a distinct new offering within the same product family. The 6.8 Western has carved out a consistent niche among hunters who want a cartridge that fits a standard short-action receiver while delivering the retained energy needed for larger game at moderate hunting ranges.
No MSRPs or confirmed ship dates were included in the October 15 release. Hornady new products typically begin arriving at dealers in January, with distributor allocation notices flowing in November and December. Shooters planning builds or purchases around the new SBR Suppressed cartridges should verify availability with their dealers before finalizing specs.
