Genesis Training Solutions has released the GTS Pivot, a portable, app-controlled turning target built to put movement and decision-making into live-fire practice. The Pivot base sells for $899 direct from Genesis Training Solutions, with an optional Popper Sensor available as a $25 add-on.

The concept is straightforward. The Pivot rotates a target between a facing position and a concealed, edge-on position, so the shooter has to wait for the target to present before engaging. The company sums up the idea in its product description: "Static targets teach you where to shoot. The GTS Pivot challenges you to recognize when to shoot." GTS is pitching the system to competition shooters, law enforcement and military trainers, and private owners working on their own skills.

Control runs through the GTS mobile app for iOS and Android over Bluetooth Low Energy, with no Wi-Fi or cell service required, which matters on remote ranges. From the app, a shooter or instructor can turn the target manually, build custom drills with adjustable timing, and randomize presentations. Multiple Pivots can be linked for more complex scenarios.

The Pivot can also be triggered without anyone touching a phone. Each unit ships with the GTS Motion Sensor and a 16-foot sensor cable, and the optional Popper Sensor lets a hit on compatible steel set off a target. A feature GTS calls Hive Mode lets connected sensors activate selected Pivots, so a shooter can run a sequence where knocking down one popper turns the next target.

According to GTS, most phones hold a reliable connection to the Pivot at about 100 yards, depending on the device, line of sight, and conditions. The company says some devices have kept control beyond 300 yards, and phones with weaker Bluetooth antennas generally manage about 50 yards.

The base measures 19 inches long, 11.5 inches wide, and 5.5 inches tall, with a 19-inch arm, and weighs about 12 pounds. The electronics sit in a water- and dust-resistant housing. GTS says the oversized rechargeable battery is built for all-day range sessions and thousands of rotations. A Wind Correct feature returns the target to its intended position if a gust pushes it past the motor's holding resistance, and the base can be weighted down in heavier wind. The company recommends storing the unit indoors between range trips.

Each Pivot includes the base, 1x2 holders, the motion sensor and 16-foot cable, and assembly hardware: four hex screws, two thumb tabs, and hex keys. The 1x2 uprights and cardboard targets are not included, so shooters will need to supply their own lumber and target backers. The Pivot is available now through the Genesis Training Solutions online store.
