Beretta USA announced the A400 Solo at the end of July, a new 12-gauge semi-automatic shotgun designed to bridge the gap between the company's mid-range and flagship A400 lines, with the gun reaching dealers on July 31 after making its trade-show debut at the Ducks Unlimited Expo in Memphis. The A400 Solo centers on the new B-LINK Pro gas-operating system, which Beretta says cycles 36 percent faster and runs 46 percent cleaner than previous-generation systems while reliably chambering everything from light 2¾-inch target loads to heavy 3-inch magnum hunting ammunition.

The B-LINK Pro is the Solo's clearest departure from older A400 designs. Beretta engineered the system around larger gas ports and revised piston geometry, eliminating the fouling-buildup problem that plagues gas guns pushed through long hunting days or high-volume sporting clays sessions without a cleaning break. The result, according to Beretta, is a shotgun that stays soft and reliable through successive seasons without the intervention schedule a more sensitive gas system demands.

Complementing the gas work is the Kick-Off Plus hydraulic recoil reduction system, borrowed from the A400 Xtreme Plus and dialed into the Solo's lighter chassis. Beretta rates Kick-Off Plus at up to 40 percent reduction in felt recoil, with additional benefits in muzzle rise reduction for faster second-shot acquisition on crossing birds. A Steelium cold hammer-forged barrel with an 80mm double forcing cone rounds out the core technology package, promoting tighter patterns and extending barrel service life under the demands of steel shot and hard hunting-field use.

The A400 Solo comes in 12 gauge with a 3-inch chamber and is offered in 26-, 28- and 30-inch barrel lengths, giving hunters the flexibility to configure around upland walking, trap shooting, or waterfowl decoy work from a single platform. The receiver is machined from aerospace-grade aluminum alloy and the gun weighs about 7.5 pounds unloaded. Beretta offers eight finish configurations: Black Synthetic at the base, and seven camo patterns including Optifade Timber, Optifade Marsh, Realtree MAX-7, Realtree Legacy, Mossy Oak Bottomland, Mossy Oak Original Bottomland and Mossy Oak Original Shadow Grass, covering everything from flooded bottomland timber to open-country goose fields.

MSRP opens at $1,549 for the Black Synthetic model and rises to $1,649 for camouflage-finished versions. At its introduction price, the Solo sits between Beretta's A350 line and the premium A400 Xcel and Xtreme Plus, staking out a position as a working hunter's gun with flagship-adjacent technology. Field & Stream notes that early field testers found the cycling noticeably smoother than comparable gas-operated platforms at this price tier, crediting the B-LINK Pro design for eliminating the stutter that older gas systems exhibit when transitioning between load types.

At the Ducks Unlimited Expo, where the Solo made its show debut alongside the AX800 Suprema and a Suprema Waterfowl Collection in Mossy Oak Original Bottomland, Beretta signaled a broad fall-season push timed to hunters beginning their annual upgrade cycle. With early teal and dove seasons opening across the country in September and the main duck and goose calendar running through winter, the Solo arrives at exactly the point when hunters commit to their primary scattergun for the year.
