Staccato 2011 has expanded its HD line with a full-size, steel-framed duty pistol. The Texas company announced the Staccato HD P4X on July 4, describing it as the most advanced mission-ready handgun it has built. The pistol is chambered in 9mm, carries a starting MSRP of $3,599, and reaches authorized dealers on July 13.

The HD P4X is built on the same 4-inch compensated platform as the Staccato HD C4X, the concealed-carry-oriented model that pairs a compact aluminum frame with the same barrel length. Where the C4X is cut down for carry, the P4X goes the other direction: a precision-machined steel frame and a full-size grip aimed at duty belts, overt carry, and professional deployment.

Three features define the gun. A 4-inch DLC flush-fit compensated barrel works to reduce muzzle rise and keep the sights flatter through recoil. A 4140 DLC steel frame adds mass where it helps, absorbing recoil and improving shot-to-shot consistency. And a full-size Staccato HD grip feeds 18-round magazines, giving the P4X both a fuller purchase and more capacity than the compact C4X.

Like the rest of the HD line, the P4X carries the full control set Staccato has built into its latest 2011 pistols. Those include ambidextrous controls with a dual-sided safety and slide stop, a reversible magazine catch, Glock-pattern magazine compatibility, an active firing pin block, and the company's HD HOST optic-mounting system. Staccato says the pistol is crafted in Texas from American steel.

The company also points to outside validation: every Staccato HD pistol passes the federal Ballistic Research Facility standards, a set of protocols designed to simulate real-world defensive encounters that has become a benchmark for evaluating handgun ballistic performance.
