Sportsman's Warehouse Holdings delivered second-quarter fiscal 2026 results that beat Wall Street estimates, with firearms and ammunition leading the retailer's strongest department performance, the company announced September 1 in a press release distributed via GlobeNewswire. The outdoor retailer reported net sales of $295.6 million for the quarter, a 0.6 percent increase over the $293.9 million posted in the same period a year earlier.
The standout numbers for the firearms community sat inside the hunting and shooting sports department, which grew nearly 7 percent year over year. Digging further, firearms unit sales climbed 8 percent compared to the prior year and ammunition surged nearly 11 percent — two categories that spent much of 2024 navigating a demand hangover after the post-pandemic surge unwound. The Q2 results suggest that normalization has largely run its course and that the category is approaching fall hunting season with renewed momentum.
Chief Executive Officer Paul Stone said he was pleased with the company's second-quarter execution despite what he described as a challenging consumer environment in which customers continue to be selective about discretionary spending. Gross margin improved 50 basis points to 32.5 percent, and the net loss narrowed sharply to $4.4 million, or negative $0.11 per diluted share, compared with a net loss of $7.1 million, or negative $0.18 per diluted share, in the year-ago quarter. Total inventory declined by $44.5 million year over year, reducing the balance-sheet overhang that has constrained the company's margin recovery in prior periods and giving management more flexibility heading into the critical fall season.
For full fiscal year 2026, Sportsman's Warehouse maintained its standing guidance, projecting net sales in a range from down 1 percent to up 2 percent compared to fiscal 2025, with adjusted EBITDA expected to land between $30 million and $36 million. Capital expenditures are forecast at $20 million to $25 million. Sportsman's Warehouse operates a network of full-service outdoor sporting goods stores, concentrated in the western United States, with a merchandise assortment built around hunting, fishing, camping, and shooting sports.
Shares of Sportsman's Warehouse (NASDAQ: SPWH) rose following the earnings release, according to reporting from Investing.com. The second half of the retail calendar — fall archery season, then the firearms deer opener across most of the country — is historically the retailer's peak selling window. With firearms up 8 percent and ammunition up nearly 11 percent already in the books for Q2, the company enters that window with its two most important shooting-sports categories tracking well above where they were a year ago.
